Junghan Kim is a contemporary artist working between Korea and Japan. His practice focuses on text-based painting, exploring the visual and structural possibilities of language within the medium of painting.

Kim’s work begins with written text, often derived from fragments of personal history, memory, or reflection. However, the original meaning of the text gradually disappears through processes of repetition, layering, and pattern formation. Letters are transformed into visual elements that function as rhythm, density, and texture rather than readable language.

Through this method, the artist shifts language from a communicative system to a visual structure. The accumulation of text creates complex surfaces in which layers of writing interact with color and spatial composition. These layered structures reflect the artist’s interest in the relationship between perception, memory, and inner psychological space.

Kim’s ongoing InnerSpace series examines the idea of an internal landscape constructed through language. By repeatedly writing and covering text, the artist builds dense visual fields that suggest the layered nature of human consciousness. His work ultimately seeks to dissolve the boundary between language and image, inviting viewers to experience text as a purely visual phenomenon.
